Pom's gone, but restaurant continues

After a whirlwind of diapers, sleep deprivation and getting to know my new daughter, I'm back at work. It looks like I've missed a lot while I was on leave, so please keep those tips coming.

You'll get your veggies, but at a pretty steep price

After all the rich food of the holidays, a simple meal with a side of steamed vegetables might be appealing, and there's an abundance of choices in the frozen food aisle.

Starting 2009 with a hangover

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. That old clock sounds like a cannon blasting this morning, eh? Are you suffering after overdoing it last night? You’re a bit nauseated, your mouth is dry and no amount of mouthwash will remove that icky taste on your tongue. Face it pal, you have a hangover.

Whole grain brown rice mix not much of a success

Nutritionists say brown rice, which is the main ingredient in Success Herb Roasted Chicken Whole Grain Brown Rice Mix, is a more healthful choice than the white rice many grew up eating. Not your ordinary brewski

That much? For beer? People are used to their $4, $5 and $6 six-packs. And those who like imports and craft beers know they have to pay $7, $8 even $10 to take a six-pack home. But $10, $15 and even more for a bottle? What's up with that?

Lean Pockets sandwich good, both inside and out

Lean Pockets Chef Inspired sandwiches are lean (only 7 grams of fat), mean and made with a whole-grain crust. Recently, members of the Times-Union Consumer Panel tried the Grilled Chicken, Mushroom & Spinach sandwiches, and most thought they were good, especially the crust.

Now that's using the old eggnoggin

Some people's brains get scrambled at the mention of homemade eggnog. Though this thick and creamy holiday beverage is easy to make, these days not many would dare.

Store's got a whole lot of organic going on

No one will ever mix up New York and Jacksonville, but Yoanna Thompson and her husband, Micah, said the new Whole Foods Market on San Jose Boulevard looks a lot like the one where they usually shop in New York.
