Police Shootings
Submitted by iriejam on Thu. 12/11/2008 at 10:17 amI would like to rant about the various comments about police shootings. I am sick and tired of people taking the side of the criminals who get shot. Can't these people learn. If a cop says stop, you stop, then there will be no excuse for shooting. Why aren't these people (NAACP) and others like it getting the word out, stop running from and shooting at cops. How come they don't have anything to say when a cop gets shot. Do they think a cop is going to stop and count to ten when they are being shot at. Come on, use your brains and do something constructive instead of aligning yourselves on the side of the criminals.
jacksonville port authority holiday barbecue lunch wed., dec 10.
Submitted by JAKE on Sun. 12/14/2008 at 11:55 amsaw this in financial news on dec 11 issue. my first thought was how are these people spending this money living it up when the rest of the country is struggling to make ends meet. further into the story it states that not only is this lunch for the employee's but are to the employee's of the vendors.seem's to me conflict of interest and could be considered "bribery".

Submitted by aghunyar on Tue. 12/16/2008 at 11:51 amAfter joining etc I could not find the place to vote for the comics. You need to make this an easy process so the real people that read the "paper" can vote. I guess I will try snail mail since I could not vote online.

Like the others, I guess I'll have to use the mail. Your logon does not allow you to reach your goal in order to vote.

registering to vote on comics
Submitted by elfawal on Mon. 12/22/2008 at 12:14 amI admit that I had to try 2 or 3 times to register as a user of the site. But I just went back to the beginning and started again. I got the same notice that I had already voted, but in the end, I got registered, and I did vote. The "yellow" square in the middle of the page was way down the page, but it is there. And the list of comics was there, as posted. I hope the TU will extend the voting period, so more interested readers can have a chance. Out of 4 adults in this household, I am the only one who had time to read the paper, find the survey notice, and then locate the funny pages so I could read up and compare all 16 comic strips. I am sure at least 2 others would have voted, if this wasn't such a busy time of year. Besides, this is important! In all of my 65 years, I have never had the chance to vote for a comic strip. So many of my old friends have disappeared, and I remember them fondly even now. What happened to Pogo, Little Lulu, Li'l Abner, the Sad Sack? I still remember a quote from Pogo, though I can't remember which character made it. "Don't take life so serious. Nobody gets out of it alive, anyway." How many times that has made me stop for a laugh at myself, and a reality check. And when Li'l Abner went away, he took Sadie Hawkins Day with him. Darn shame, if you ask me. Just how many old maids were created by the ending of that national holiday?
Merry Christmas, everybody!
The Union is paying for this
Submitted by 5genJaxNative on Mon. 12/22/2008 at 5:51 pmJake, The longshoreman's union can spend their money anyway they want to. It's the Union, not the Port. I am sure Victoria Robias would not waste money in this forum.
